Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would put her in America's eyes, into the child prodigy category. But for a young Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended families, these characteristics were a natural. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin business, and held shares of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons came second in a household of six FitzSimons. The passion for sports was matched by an unnatural talent for performing. She was awarded nearly all Feis Award for Theatre and Drama which her nation had to provide. At age fourteen, she was accepted into the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing as well as classical theater.
